Are you ready for the first Awesöme Session of 2022?!

We sure are! Join us in SAN FRANCISCO on Saturday, March 5 from 1-4pm for Session 78 at SF Sports Basement Presidio (right next to Crissy Field) in their amazing events space - The Dairy. We’ll be taking to the skies with John Williams’ Superman March, playing the Bay Area premiere of Dale Trumbore’s Infinitely and without Apology, and getting soulful with a new arrangement of “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” by Carole King and Aretha Franklin.

Full Session Details

WHEN: Saturday, March 5, 2022, 1–4pm

WHERE: Sports Basement SF Presidio, 610 Old Mason St, San Francisco, CA 94129

Session 78 will take place in the events space in Sports Basement Presidio called The Dairy. When you enter the store, head to the back LEFT corner and you'll find it. Look for "THE DAIRY" in large letters on the ceiling. Participants are invited to park in either of the two Sports Basement parking lots.

COST: Free for musicians and audience.

TRANSPORTATION SUGGESTIONS: The MUNI 30 bus stops in the Sports Basement Parking Lot out front, so there's very convenient public transportation! We also recommend reaching out to other players on our discord server to set up a walking group or carpool (https://discord.gg/NWSf8MAhmd)

SCHEDULE, REPERTOIRE, INSTRUMENTATION

**Please note: the order of pieces has changed**

1-1:50pm: "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" by Carole King and Aretha Franklin (arranged by Brian Adam McCune) featuring guest vocalist Yvette Pylant!

INSTRUMENTATION: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets (in B-flat), 2 bassoons, 4 horns (in F), 3 trumpets (in C), 2 trombones, 1 bass trombone, 1 tuba, timpani, 2 percussion (suspended cymbal, claves, sizzle cymbal, bass drum, castanets, triangle), violins, violas, cellos, double basses - plus rhythm section: solo tenor sax, electric piano, electric guitar, electric bass, drum set.


2-3pm: Dale Trumbore - Infinitely and without Apology - Bay Area premiere!

INSTRUMENTATION: 1 flute, 1 piccolo, 1 oboe, 1 english horn, 2 clarinets (in B-flat), 2 bassoons, 4 horns (in F), 2 trumpets (in C), 3 trombones, 1 tuba, timpani, 2 percussion (glockenspiel, vibraphone), 1 piano, violins, violas, cellos, double basses


3:10-4pm: John Williams - Superman March

INSTRUMENTATION: 2 flutes, 1 piccolo, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets (in B-flat), 1 bass clarinet, 2 bassoons, 4 horns (in F), 4 trumpets (in B-flat), 2 trombones, 1 bass trombone, 1 tuba, timpani, 3 percussion (snare drum, triangle, crash cymbal, suspended cymbal, triangle, glockenspiel, vibraphone), 1 harp, 1 piano, violins, violas, cellos, double basses

We'll provide chairs, sheet music. - MUSICIANS please bring your own music stand!

The sign-up deadline for all sections is Saturday, February 26 - so be sure to sign up early! You can expect an email from your Awesöme Ambassadors with specific info by Tuesday, March 1 (check your spam filters if this is your first session). Email your ambassadors if you haven't heard back by Wednesday March 2 EOD. (Please be patient—they have a lot of information to collect before emailing everyone.) FOR MUSICIANS

MUSICIANS: The sign-up deadline for all sections is Saturday, February 26 - But we expect to hit some section caps before that date - so be sure to sign up early! We will update the sign-up form once we hit section capacities and keep a small waitlist. You can expect an email from your Awesöme Ambassadors with specific info by Tuesday, March 1 (check your spam filters if this is your first session). Email your ambassadors if you haven't heard back by Tuesday 3/1 EOD. Their information can be found here.


FOR AUDIENCE MEMBERS

AUDIENCE: The audience capacity for this session is 150, but we are asking each person to fill out their own RSVP form (for contact tracing purposes). There will be plenty of seating (couches and comfy armchairs). Email us (baily@awesomeorchestra.org) if you need to cancel or if you have any questions!


COVID SAFETY PROTOCOLS

While Sports Basement doesn’t have a vaccination requirement to enter the store *** Please note that proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 AND booster shot is required to enter the event space and participate in the session as a musician or attend as an audience member ***

You’ll be asked to upload a copy of your vaccination card (photo of your paper copy or screenshot of your digital card) when you sign up as a musician or audience member. Audience members can also show their proof of vaccination status at the entrance to the events space. California residents may get a digital copy of their vaccine record at: https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov/

This is an INDOOR session. All attendees and participants will be REQUIRED to wear face masks, expect for winds and brass when actively playing their instruments.
