Get ready to level up with Awesöme Orchestra as we head back to one of our FAVORITE venues - The California Academy of Sciences - for their popular NightLife Series on Thursday, August 25 from 6:30-9:30pm! It’s a video game themed event, jam-packed with amazing music curated by guest conductor and resident video game expert Travis Kindred and featuring members of local band Super Soul Bros! This event will also feature lots of fun exhibits, including a fossil-inspired Pokémon talk, classic board games, and a Super Smash Bros. tournament—you won’t want to miss this session!! This event is 21+

California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco *** Players MUST enter through the back entrance at 75 Nancy Pelosi Dr. to get their free badges. Please do not come through the outside driveway.***

COST:
Free for musicians. Audience members will need to purchase NightLife tickets from Cal Academy ($19)

We strongly suggest carpooling and ride-sharing for this location as there is NO RESERVED PARKING for us. Celeste Symphonic Suite by Lena Raine (arr. by Andres Soto and reduced by Travis Kindred)

8:40-9:05pm:
"Clip Joint Calamity" from Cuphead (for big band) by Kristofer Maddigan

INSTRUMENTATION: 2 alto saxes (1st doubles clarinet), 1 tenor sax, 1 bari sax, 3 trumpets (B-flat), 1 trombone, 1 bass trombone, 1 banjo, 1 piano, 1 double bass, 1 drum set

9:05-9:30pm:
"Floral Fury" from Cuphead (for big band) by Kristofer Maddigan

INSTRUMENTATION: 1 flute (doubling piccolo), 2 alto saxes (doubling flute), 2 tenor sax, 1 bari sax, 4 trumpets (B-flat), 3 trombones, 1 bass trombone, 1 electric guitar, 1 piano, 1 drum set, latin percussion

*Please note that 2 of these pieces use a wordless vocal choir (SATB). We will not have amplification or an extra rehearsal prior to the session, however, if we have any extra flutes and clarinets on the wait list, they're encouraged to join the choir on their instrument (we have special instrumental parts of the choir parts arranged for them in the google drive).

We will have space for 12 flutes, 6 oboes, 12 clarinets, 6 bassoons, 4 alto saxes, 3 tenor saxes, 2 bari saxes, 8 horns, 9 trumpets, 9 trombones, 3 tubas, 10 percussion, 4 keyboards, 2 guitars, 32 violins, 16 violas, 16 cellos, and 8 double basses

Musician sign-ups for Session 84 will begin on Tuesday, August 9 at 12pm. We expect this session to fill up VERY quickly, so make sure to check your inboxes promptly and sign-up as early as possible to secure a spot. This event is 21+


FOR AUDIENCE

Session 84 will require audience members to purchase a ticket to NightLife: Level Up! Tickets are $19.25. This event is 21+ and all attendees are required to bring full proof of vaccination and booster and ID.


HEALTH & SAFETY PROTOCOLS

Session 84 is an outdoor session (we are playing in the outdoor side garden in the venue). All musicians will be REQUIRED to wear face masks except winds and brass and conductors while actively playing. While we are requiring face masks for all musicians, Cal Academy is strongly recommending face masks for NightLife attendees.

Please note that proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 AND booster shot is required to enter this venue and participate as a musician or audience member.
