NILSSON SINGS NILSSON PRESENTS:

THE POINT!

Live performance of Harry Nilsson's full album and excerpts of the animated story 'The Point!'  with members of Awesöme Orchestra.

Produced by Kiefo Nilsson and David Moschler.

Harry Nilsson is a legendary singer-songwriter, known by his loyal fans for his songwriting genius. Many who are not yet knowingly fans of Nilsson himself are already well versed in his music. Some of his more well-known tunes are "Coconut" ("Put the lime in the coconut and shake it all up!") and "One is the Loneliest Number." He's also known for being close friends with John Lennon and The Beatles.

MORE ABOUT THE SHOW:

Harry Nilsson’s 1971 album The Point! is a musical fable about Oblio, the sole round-headed person in a land where everything and everyone must have a (literal) point. It tells the story of his exclusion, exile and the lessons he learns along the way. The album was adapted into an animated movie by Fred Wolf and has remained a cult classic ever since. Come hear this epic fable with music and narration performed live in its entirety along with visual excerpts of the animation. Harry Nilsson’ son, Kiefo Nilsson, sings  lead vocals backed by a twelve-piece ensemble comprised of members of the Bay Area’s adventurous Awesöme Orchestra. Writer, Humorist and Bay Area native, Mallory Ortberg joins as the Narrator, making this unique, multimedia experience not to be missed!

Kiefo Nilsson (lead vocals, electric bass, co-producer) is an in-demand vocalist and multi-instrumentalist based in Southern California. He has worked with such artists as Glen Campbell, Van Dyke Parks, Neko Case, and many more. The Nilsson Sings Nilsson project aims to preserve and promote the legacy of his father’s catalogue by performing live renditions of his music, much of which has otherwise never before been performed live.

Mallory Ortberg (narration) is an acclaimed writer and humorist based in Oakland. She launched the popular website The Toast with Nicole Cliffe. Her debut book, Texts From Jane Eyre was published in 2014. She currently writes Dear Prudence for Slate.com and recently launched an email newsletter called The Shatner Chatner.

Whether they’re playing music by Stravinsky or Sly and the Family Stone, doing a BART flash mob or flooding the stage of the Fox Theater with musicians, Awesöme Orchestra seeks out musical adventures. Founded in 2013 by conductor David Möschler at a West Oakland warehouse, they have had over 2000 local musicians play with them since then, including recordings and performances with artists such as Green Day, Sly and The Family Stone, Van Dyke Parks, Casey Crescenzo and The Dear Hunter, Beats Antique, among many others. Their mission is to make awesome orchestral adventures accessible to players and the public.

Originally from Ciudad Juarez, México, Diana Gameros is a singer, songwriter and guitarist. Now living in the Bay Area, she has played with many favorites, including the San Francisco Symphony, and has opened concerts for Bebel Gilberto, La Santa Cecilia, Latin Grammy winner Natalia Lafourcade and many others.
