Session 87: Video Game NightLife

Join Awesöme Orchestra on Thursday, March 23 from 6:30-9:30pm for a session curated by guest conductors and resident video game experts Travis Kindred and Criss Bürki! The Game Developers Conference (GDC) descends on SF from March 20-24, so we’re teaming up with The California Academy of Sciences and their popular NightLife Series to celebrate with a video game-themed evening of music, games, and leveling up!

Repertoire includes music from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Legend of Zelda, and Final Fantasy VII. This event will also feature lots of interactive video game exhibits and fun cocktails!

Full session details and a link to sign up as a musician or singer will go out on Tuesday, March 7 at 12pm PST. We expect this session to fill up quickly, so set your reminders! Participating players & singers will get in free, but Audience members will need to purchase tickets for this event via Cal Academy. This event is 21+


SESSION 87 DETAILS

WHEN: Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 6:30-9:30pm. We recommend arriving at 6pm to have time to check in and get set up.

WHERE: California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco *** Players MUST enter through the back entrance at 75 Nancy Pelosi Dr. to get their free badges. Please do not come through the outside driveway. Musicians will also need to check in once they arrive both at the back door, and also when picking up their sheet music ***

COST: Free for musicians. This event is 21+. Audience members will need to purchase NightLife tickets from Cal Academy ($20.75)

TRANSPORTATION SUGGESTIONS: We strongly suggest carpooling and ride-sharing for this location as there is NO RESERVED PARKING for us. 6:30-7:20pm:  Dragonborn from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim by Jeremy Soule arranged for orchestra and chorus by Andrés Soto (~3.5')

INSTRUMENTATON: 2 flutes, 1 piccolo, 2 oboes, 1 english horn 2, clarinets (B-flat), 1 bass clarinet, 2 bassoons, 4 horns (F), 3 trumpets (B-flat), 2 trombones, 1 bass trombone, 1 tuba, timpani, 4 percussion (snare drum, bass drum, 3 Taiko, crash cymbals, suspended cymbal, tam tam, mark tree), choir (SATB), strings

7:30-8:30pm:  
The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Medley by Koji Kondo arranged for orchestra by Andres Soto (~8')

INSTRUMENTATION: 2 flutes, 1 piccolo, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets (B-flat),  2 bassoons, 4 horns (F), 3 trumpets (B-flat), 2 trombones, 1 bass trombone, 1 tuba, timpani, 4 percussion (bass drum, snare drum, tambourine, crash cymbals, suspended cymbal, glockenspiel, chimes), harp, strings

8:40-9:30pm: 
One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy VII by Nobuo Uematsu arranged for orchestra and chorus by Andres Soto (~4.5')

INSTRUMENTATION: 2 flutes, 1 piccolo, 2 oboes, 1 english horn, 2 clarinets (B-flat), 1 bass clarinet, 2 bassoons, 4 horns (F), 3 trumpets (B-flat), 2 trombones, 1 bass trombone, 1 tuba, timpani, 3 percussion (snare drum, bass drum, crash cymbals, suspended cymbals, gong, whip, xylophone, chimes), piano, choir (SATB), strings

We'll provide chairs and sheet music. MUSICIANS please bring your own music stand!
