Session 48 - MÁrquez, Uematsu, and Lee Jones at Sports Basement

Sunday, March 5  1-4 PM

Sports Basement

2727 Milvia StREET, Berkeley, CA (specifically the Zamboni Center inside the store)

TRANSPORTATION SUGGESTIONS: It's brief ten-minute, safe walk from Ashby BART, though if you need to drive, limited free street parking is available (though Sports Basement has asked us not to take up their regular parking lot spaces).

Our program for this session couldn't be more diverse! Uematsu's "One-Winged Angel" from Final Fantasy VII was inspired by Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, the rock stylings of Jimi Hendrix and cinematic drama of Hitchcock's Psycho theme. Awesöme Orchestra is proud to premiere Symphony No. 1 by Oakland's Feona Lee Jones, a celebrated composer with works spanning classical, film, interactive games, and many others. The session concludes with Danzon No. 2, arguably the most popular and frequently performed Mexican contemporary classical music compositions.

Repertoire and schedule are as follows, with conductor David Möschler

1:00-2:00pm - Nobuo Uematsu - "One-Winged Angel" from Final Fantasy VII

2:00-3:00pm - Feona Lee Jones - Symphony No. 1 (premiere reading by Oakland composer!)

3:00-4:00pm - Arturo MÁrquez - Danzón No. 2

Please bring a music stand. We'll have chairs, sheet music, and beer and water for all the musicians!

Deadlines for smaller sections are Sunday, February 19. Once that is past, expect an email from your Awesöme Ambassadors with specific info and part assignments (check your spam filters if this is your first session), and email them if you haven't heard back by February 24 (please be patient - they have a lot of information to collect before emailing everyone). Their information can be found at
